Gryffin gown

The past two weeks I have been working on my next Elizabethan gown. I call it my "Gryffin Gown" after the brocade I'm using.

The black brocade with the silver gryffins will be used for the overskirt and the bodice. The lighter silvery brocade will be used for the forepart and the sleeves. So far I've made the underskirt of black satin and the forepart of the silvery brocade. I've also sewn litlle pearl beads on all the crosses of the forepart.

And a picture of the finished underskirt.

The overskirt is made of 4 fabric widths of the gryffin brocade, which is cartridge pleated to a waistband. So far I haven't added any decoration, but I'm not sure if it needs anything. The fabric is beautiful as it is. I guess I will finish the whole gown first and then think about trims etcetera.

Black natural form gown

Another gown I made last year. This one is part of my 'black gowns project'. I'm planning to make a black gown from all periods. The underskirt is the fantail skirt in walking length. I made two overskirts. One is all lace and is the waterfall overskirt, the other one is the hermione overskirt. The front of this overskirt is lace and the back silk taffeta.

For the bodice I didn't use a natural form pattern, but used the tailbodice as a base. The back is drafted by myself, like this.

Medieval fantasy gown

Just finished this gown last week. It's been one big battle, even when the pattern M4491 wasn't that difficult. And I wasn't happy with the fabric, which I ordered online. It was much stiffer than I expected. But although I wasn't loving this dress I kept on going, forcing myself to finish it and not give up.
